This very old mirror is in a largely authentic state of preservation. The construction of the wooden frame and the fixing technique, as well as the state of preservation of the mirrors, date back to the 17th century, when the first flat glass mirrors were manufactured. The central field should be the maximum size that could be manufactured at the time as flat glass. Much of the fixing appears to have been made experimentally, which also indicates very early manufacture. The shards of glass are grey-brown, and the ornamental screws are heavily oxidised. The engraving of the coat of arms appears to be of southern Italian origin. This field appears to have been completed at a later date.
It has been consolidated and cleaned by a restorer in Murano, and a few pieces of glass have been added.
It comes from a collection in northern Italy.
