The embroidery depicts a procession, likely a wedding one. The sumptuous garments, the profusion of jewelry, the standards, and the parasols should herald an imperial wedding. The quality of the weaving is superb; the stitches are tiny and astonishingly regular. This is an exceptionally excellent embroidery, created in one of the best weaving workshops in southern China. The vivid colors allow us to date the work to the second half of the 19th century, during the Cixi period.
Good condition, perfectly preserved colors. Some discoloration at the beginning of the procession, as can be seen in the photos. As the headband is in two parts, one might think it was shortened, but the decoration is correctly arranged; indeed, the standard-bearer on the right side follows the flag on the left side.
The silk was clumsily stapled to a wooden panel and placed under glass. 190cm x 28.5cm
