Murrina Glass Vase designed by Gino Vistosi for Vetreria Vistosi, sixties

Most of the objects produced by Vistosi in the 1960s were decorative rather than functional. This post-war company was founded in 1945 by Guglielmo Vistosi, and mainly specialized in the production of lighting. This orientation did not change when Oreste Vistosi, with his nephews Gino and Luciano, took over the factory in 1952, after Guglielmo's death. At the beginning of the 1960s, Luciano Vistosi invited Peter Pelzel and Alessandro Pianon to join the company. These two designers then strive to design affordable artistic objects with a modern spirit. The former was known for his slender bottle shapes created for S.A.LI.R. at the end of the 1950s, also decorated with an applied band of small Murrines of colored glass. This series was exhibited at the XXXI Venice Biennale in 1962. During the same period, Fulvio Bianconi also designed colorless rectangular vases with this type of closed square Murrines. The majority of this usual Vistosi production was sold to architects and interior decorators, who used these objects in their showrooms, very popular at this period for their fresh colors and their play of aerial and joyful Murrines.
