IMPORTANT PAINTING "TWO ELEGANT LADIES ON THE OPERA STEPS" by

Valentine Cameron PRINSEP (1803 Calcutta, India - 1904 London, UK)

Oil on canvas with frame, trace of signature centre right.

Presence of a label on the back of the frame with the name of the artist, dated "1872" and the address of the artist.

Canvas size :138 x 92 cm
Size with frame : 164x120 cm

In 1877, Prinsep returned to India and painted a huge painting of the Delhi Durbar.

The work was commissioned by Robert Bulwer-Lytton, 1st Earl of Lytton. Viceroy of India.

It was exhibited in 1880 at the Royal Academy, presented to Queen Victoria and later displayed at Buckingham Palace.
