Offered by Galerie Vandermeersch
A rare soft-paste Chantilly porcelain plate, of gently contoured form with a raised basket-weave rim. It is decorated in manganese purple camaïeu with a putto seated on a cloud holding a laurel wreath, encircled by a single line on the rim. The central motif is derived from a Pierre Aveline engraving after François Boucher, published by Gabriel Huquier in his Quatrième livre de groupes d’enfants.
Circa 1755.
Hunting-horn mark on the reverse.
This plate dates from the period when Chantilly’s output was especially receptive to Vincennes influences.
