This pair of Delft earthenware vases was mounted in bronze in the 19th century, with the base and top of the neck custom-made to fit the shape of the vases. The latter are adorned with a blue decoration on a white background inspired by the Chinese porcelain brought back by the East India Company ships in the 17th and 18th centuries. In the case of our ceramics, it is composed of stylized motifs, plants, arabesques, birds and flowers. This taste for chinoiserie was widespread in the 18th century, and European earthenware manufacturers, particularly Delft, dreamed of producing porcelain in imitation of that brought back from the Far East. The baluster shape has eight pinched and gadrooned ribs. The bronzes, originally in gilded varnish, now have a beautiful golden patina.
The potiches date from the 18th century, the frame from the 19th century. The electrification has just been refurbished, and the basic lampshades are there for presentation purposes, to leave the choice of color and shape to the customer, the latter not always justifying the shipping costs.
Dimensions: lamp 37 cm, lamp and lampshade 69 cm.
