Guéridon Period Consulate Epoque 1799-1804.

Mahogany veneer pedestal table decorated with bronzes. Tripod base in carved and patinated wood with faun masks. Claw feet. Petit Granit top 'en cuvette'. The lower top also in Petit Granit. Consulate period. H: 74 - D: 98 cm This model of pedestal tables with tripod base formed of three shanks ending in lion claws appeared in the very first years of the 19th century. We know of a certain number of examples, notably a pedestal table known as the “Palais-Royal model” preserved in the Mancel-Coti collection and whose feet are highlighted with faun masks (illustrated in C. Bizot, Mobilier Directoire Empire, Editions Charles Massin, Paris, p.9)
