Porcelain dish, underglaze cobalt blue decoration, representing characters in a boat, probably a philosopher and his assistants, a crane in flight, a pine tree, the moon and a constellation of stars. A text in Chinese characters, probably a poem, must explain the scene. The pine and the crane are both symbols of immortality. The edge of the dish is reinforced by a copper mount, as is common on porcelain imported into Annam during this period. This type of porcelain was made in China for the Vietnamese market at the beginning of the 19th century, but perhaps before.
Diameter: 235mm. Good condition.
