Italian Reliquary Of The True Cross – 18th Century

Our beautifully carved and gilded wooden frame is decorated with acanthus leaves and rockeries.
On the top cartouche are two initials M and R dominating a painted heart. The reliquary houses the remains "ex ossibus" of several Saints and Martyrs "De Piu SS MM", Marturae, Martyr also as well as, and above all, a relic of the Holy Cross.
The whole is surrounded by a rich montage of silver threads and colored beads. In the center and in Glory, an oval medallion in brass and under glass, hosts a small plaster sculpture, representing the Virgin with a scepter carrying the Child.
An Italian work from the end of the 18th century.
