This magnificent portrait, which immortalizes a fascinating girl with a fan in front of her face, is a work to be placed in the panorama of Neapolitan painting of the second half of the nineteenth century, showing evident affinities with the models of the Neapolitan Vincenzo Irolli.

As in our painting, his style is distinguished by the fast and vibrant brush stroke and the palette full of chromatic highlights, with strong post-impressionist influences deriving from his Parisian stay.

The international echo of Neapolitan painting of this period, also favored by the direct line that linked Naples to Paris thanks to the conspicuous presence of French merchants passing through the city, facilitated the flowering of real "schools" and artistic experiences that brought to the development of a thriving artistic production.

The author leads us to focus attention on the young woman's eyes, on her mischievous smile. It represents the typical beauty of the women of Naples, which the painter wanted to enhance: in fact, the painting cannot be identified only as a portrait but as the representation of a model of femininity and an ideal of seduction.

Through the brightness of her face, the young woman expresses all the expressiveness of her magnetic and sophisticated gaze aimed at crossing that of the spectator, showing large and dark eyes, and her charming smile. In his hands a fan, as a seduction tool, which gives it even more charm.

The table stands out for its casual, fluid and material painting, with a sparkling variety of colors lit by highly studied chromatic contrasts.

Completed by a beautiful coeval frame in wood and gilded stucco with gold leaf.
