Large reliquary statue of Saint Louis de Gonzaga in carved, polychromed and gilded wood, glass eyes. The face of our Holy man is luminous and expressive.
Our man is well born, he is of high lineage and renounces his blood rights to embrace his vocation. He studied with the Jesuits and died very young in 1591, carried away by the plague, while he had placed himself in the service of the plague victims.
Quickly beatified, he was canonized in 1726.
The reliquary is accessed through a trap door on the back of the statue, which is entirely hollowed out and can thus accommodate important relics. A Portuguese work from the 18th century.
Height of 121 cm.
