English table in solid mahogany, Victorian period

Victorian English table in solid mahogany extendable by tearing more than twice the closed size.

Four beautiful tulip-shaped legs feature a carving of leaves alternating with flowers at the top, while at the bottom they end in four burnished bronze casters contemporary with the table.

The top has rounded edges and a turned up throat edge, an element of great elegance and refinement.

Historical notes: The term Victorian refers to the reign of the great Queen Victoria, who ruled England from 1837 to 1901: a period of enormous change and better living conditions, these seventy years were also characterized by a greater rigor in all aspects of life, including decor.

Thus was born the Victorian style, original and inimitable, which became the English style par excellence, distinctive of the new middle class.

Provenance : England XIXth century (1840/50)
