Amymoné - Félix Henri Giacomotti (1828-1909)

19th century painting representing Amymone in a gilded stucco frame signed Félix Henri GIACOMOTTI is an artist born in France in 1828 and died in 1909.
In Greek mythology, Amymone or Amymoné is one of the fifty Danaïdes, daughters of Danaos.
When he arrived in Argos, Danaos sent his daughters to fetch water because the city was suffering from drought. Amymone, while hunting a deer, awakens a satyr, who tries to rape her. Poseidon hears the call for help of the girl and saves her. Then he joins her, revealing to her the location of the springs around Lerne, which allows Amymone to bring back fertility in the city. She conceives besides a son, Nauplios, of her love with the god.
