Tessera were used as entrance tickets for shows during the Roman period. Most of them are engraved with Roman numerals. Others bear as well greek inscriptions, stating that they were used in hellenized part of the Empire.
This collection is exceptional for its quantity but also for the variety of iconographies (digital comput, Hercules bust, Eros with wine grapes, fantastic creature...).
Comparables models in the British Museum (London) and Cabinet des Médailles (Paris).
