Satsuma box with lid, Southern Japan 19th century

This beautiful Satsuma porcelain box with lid is spherical in shape. The box is in two parts. The upper part, the lid is very richly worked. The ivory and gold colors, typical of Satsuma porcelain, are accompanied by black and red highlights. The decoration is figurative with the presence of scenes.

The inside of the box is also richly decorated and we find several characters haloed by a nimbus. The box itself does not have a figurative decoration but is covered with different friezes.
