19th century, Pair of French Empire Gilt and Patinated Bronze Sculptures Sphinxes
This pair of decorative elements was made in France in the early 19th century, Empire era. These are two bronze sculptures depicting anthropomorphic sphinxes crouched on a rectangular base with rim worked as a pod. The sphinxes are in burnished bronze that contrasts with the gilding of the bodice and base.
Very decorative and pleasant, the sculptures can be exhibited in pairs or individually, placed on consoles, chests of drawers, fireplaces, coffee tables and gueridon or positioned on risers and columns or to be used as bookends in a library.
