Bergère à la Reine, Louis XV Period stamped by Pierre Moreau

Stamped by Pierre Moreau, Master Carpenter in 1765

Pierre Moreau is one of the excellent chair carpenters of the 18th century. He learned his trade from Silvain-Nicolas Blanchard, who was also a specialist in the Louis XV period. Received as a Master in 1765, Moreau remained active for less than 10 years for reasons that are unknown, which explains the rarity of his production. Influenced by the sober lines dear to Blanchard, Moreau however surpassed his master to produce seats with more vigorous sculpture and perfect balance. In Paris, the Mobilier National has a seat by Pierre Moreau from the Château de Marly.

We present here a large curved Bergère with a flat back, called "à la Reine", in molded natural beech. As often with the works of Pierre Moreau, the main quality is the balance of proportions. The large width chosen for a very comfortable seat, is counterbalanced by a backrest a little higher than normal for a Bergère. Simply molded and carved with flowers, the work is nevertheless admirable by the care taken with the ribbed molding, and by the perfect camber of the legs and armrests. Also, the choice of the most beautiful beech wood is to be noted.

The state of conservation of this Bergère is perfect, the 14 pieces that make up the frame are original. This seat has just been totally restored, in carpentry and upholstery. New fabric from Rubelli, custom trimmings.
