Carl Bergsten, b. Norrköping 1879, d. Stockholm 1935.
Unique mahogany and nutwood cabinet mounted on loose, carved base.
The two front doors and sides decorated with marquetry in the shape of flowers with mother of pearl inlays. Interior with shelves.
Sweden circa 1915. H. 211 cm. W. 164 cm. D. 44./66 cm.
The model was designed for the Baltic exhibition in Malmö 1914.
The cabinet is made in a type of stout Swedish Jugend style, but in its ornamentation it points towards the more simplified and refined "Swedish Grace" style that emerged during the 1920s, and which Carl Bergsten himself was one of the driving forces behind.
