Sandstone mortar


Punctuated with acanthus leaves in volutes, this mortar presents a decoration depicting couples of persons leaving daily-life scenes.

Geological study by Mme Annie Blanc :
Nature of the stone : fine yellow sandstone
This sandstone may come from Permian grounds in the Morvan, near Autun or from the Bassin de Brive.
These fine sandstones were exploited by sculptors in these two cities.
