A magnificent Biedermeier étagère based on a design by Joseph Ulrich Danhauser
Vienna, circa 1830.
Exquisitely crafted from solid cherrywood and fine cherrywood veneers.
The piece is partially ebonized, adding a refined contrast.
Literature for comparison: A nearly identical étagère, attributed to Danhauser along with the original design drawing, is illustrated in: Wilkie, Angus, Biedermeier: Elegance and Grace in a New Interior Culture at the Beginning of the 19th Century. Gerstenberg 1996, fig. 83.
