Offered by Emmanuel Redon Silver Fine Art
Silverware and Silversmith of the 19th and 20th centuries
Striking in its form and resolutely modern aesthetic, this silver covered pitcher stands out for its asymmetrical silhouette and fluid lines, which lend it an almost organic appearance. Its curved body extends into a long, tapering spout, balanced by a black Bakelite handle that arches like a ponytail.
The lid, elegantly integrated into the piece's overall profile, is topped with a small black spherical finial that echoes the handle and reinforces the unity of the design.
Created between 1985 and 1990 for the Italian firm Pomellato in Milan—based on a design attributed to the designer Handler—this pitcher exemplifies the creative spirit of late 20th-century Italian design. Far removed from traditional models with classic shapes, it embraces a bold, almost futuristic aesthetic, transforming a functional object into a decorative piece in its own right.
The pitcher bears the star hallmark followed by the number 469 MI. It also retains a retailer’s label from Gioielleria Somenzi in Cremona, documenting its commercial history in Italy.
