A renowned Dutch landscape painter of the Dutch Golden Age. This work represents a traditional panoramic Dutch landscape, with the majestic Church of St. Bavo—the principal landmark of the city of Haarlem—rising on the horizon. In the foreground stretch open fields and wooded areas, creating a harmonious and peaceful composition.

Born in Haarlem in 1628, the artist came from an artistic family. At the age of ten, he became a pupil of the painter Jacob de Wet the Elder, with whom he studied for ten years. Throughout his career, he devoted himself to Dutch landscape painting.

His works are distinguished by a restrained yet rich palette, dominated by warm ochre, olive, and green tones. Paintings by Vermeer are preserved in numerous museums around the world.
