Offered by Franck Baptiste Provence
Pair of shield-bearing lions in ochre yellow, green, and brown glazed earthenware. The animals, depicted seated on rectangular bases adorned with garlands and relief medallions, each support a coat of arms. The deliberately expressive treatment of the faces, the deeply sculpted manes, and the warm, luminous polychromy perfectly illustrate the charm of southern folk art.
These decorative glazed earthenware pieces, inspired by Italian and heraldic models, were intended to adorn a piece of furniture, a console table, or a serving table, serving as a decorative centerpiece. The imperial eagles on the shields indicate production during the Empire period or in the early 19th century.
Very good condition.
