André PLANSON ( 1898-1981)

André Planson was one of the leading exponents of French figurative painting in the XX? century.

A student at the Académie Ranson in Paris, he made his mark in the 1920s with a clear, luminous and poetic style, close to the "Poetic Reality" movement, which brought together a number of painters committed to figuration and the simplicity of everyday life.

Recognized by institutions, he took part in the Venice Biennale (1938), created mural decorations for the Palais de Chaillot (1937) and for several French liners, and was made a Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur (1949). He was elected to the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1960

His landscapes of the Marne region, nudes and still lifes are distinguished by a vibrant palette, free brushstrokes and serene harmony, halfway between the Fauve heritage and a sensitive observation of nature.
Refusing abstraction, Planson defended a simple, joyful and profoundly French style of painting throughout his career.

Today, a museum in La Ferté-sous-Jouarre preserves a significant part of his work, a testament to his luminous, lyrical style, celebrating nature and the simple beauty of everyday life.
