Triangular salt cellar from the Fontainebleau or Paris school

Triangular salt cellar from the Fontainebleau or Paris workshop, follower of Palissy, formed of three terms alternating with openwork leafy scrolls supporting an entablature adorned with three reclining lions. These support a second slightly hollowed tablet, edged with a row of pearls forming the salt receptacle, with polychrome enamel decoration in tones of brown, ochre, blue, and green.

The base of the salt cellar is decorated with a relief frieze of egg-and-dart motifs on a blue ground, and the reverse is covered with a pale manganese-purple glaze.

17th century.

Provenance:
Collection of Charles Stein, Paris;
Collection Frédéric Spitzer, Paris.
