Offered by Emmanuel Redon Silver Fine Art
Silverware and Silversmith of the 19th and 20th centuries
A rectangular solid silver jardinière resting on four corner feet. The corner supports are stylized quivers decorated with lanceolate leaves, resting on tapered bases and terminating in small foliate candle holders.
A beaded frieze runs beneath the upper band, emphasizing the geometric rigor of the piece.
The four sides feature remarkable openwork decoration of scrolls, a symmetrical interweaving of foliage and volutes forming an undulating trellis.
The delicately executed plant motifs, alternating solid and void, create a particularly refined interplay of light and shadow.
The base is adorned with a raised frieze decorated with water leaves or stylized interlacing patterns. The jardinière retains its original zinc liner, painted green, designed to protect the silver from moisture. This original element enhances its authenticity and functionality. The piece demonstrates excellent chasing and assembly, characteristic of the great Parisian silversmiths.
The decorative motifs—fluted pilasters, a beaded frieze, and symmetrical scrolls—clearly evoke the Louis XVI style, a style highly prized during the Second Empire.
