Offered by Mayflower Antiques
A fine Facon de Venise Tazza or Drinking Glass; late 16?/early 17th century; the straw tint is indicative of this piece having been made in Spain; the wide shallow bowl is moulded with fourteen ribs and an undulating rim; the tall hollow stem is formed of three knops over an inverted baluster, over a conical foot; 11.7 cms in height.
There is a very similar glass with the same straw tint and form in the collection of the Musee National de la Renaissance, Chateau d’Ecouen, France, where it is described as ‘Venice? Or Facon de Venise’ second half of the 16th
century.
Provenance: a British private collection.
