French School of the 19th century, The Resurrection of Christ after the original work by Annibale Carracci (1593) and the version by Carle van Loo (1734–38). The triumphant Christ emerges from his tomb opened by an angel. The Roman soldiers in armor are overcome by torpor. Painted in the direction of the original, the painting is executed in an almost nocturnal blue-gray tonality, as suggested by the biblical text. Christ stands out from the composition thanks to his pink drapery.
Our oil on canvas is presented in a very fine Louis XIV–Regence period frame from the early 18th century, in carved wood and gilded with gold leaf.
A beautiful painting, an object of devotion with a spectacular composition, in a very fine old frame.
