JEAN PIERRE NICOLAS BIBRON
Silversmith in Paris from 1798 to 1838
Admitted as master silversmith in Paris in 1798, JEAN PIERRE NICOLAS BIBRON works successively in rue de Harlay, rue Saint Jacques and, from 1818 onwards, rue Bourg l’Abbé. Active during the Directoire, the Consulate, the Empire and the Restoration, he distinguishes himself through refined table and presentation silver, where chased silver harmonises with elegant neoclassical ornament.
His works, including sweetmeat boxes, oil and vinegar sets, mustard pots, coffee pots and bouillon pots, display a neoclassical aesthetic characterised by stylised female figures, palmettes, lion masks and delicate mouldings. His maker’s mark appears under the standards in force between 1798 and 1838.
