Lombard Louis XV Chest Of Drawers Known As Calice

Rare Lombard Louis XV chest of drawers in Calice measuring 86 x 129 x 63 cm in walnut, walnut burl and ebonised frames from the early 18th century.

This chest of drawers, dating back to the first thirty years of the 18th century, is entirely veneered in walnut burl and supported by slender sabre legs whose outline continues in the curved apron on the front and sides; the sides, also covered in walnut burl and ebonised frames, are curved.

The piece, with a very rare shape, strongly curved on the sides in the shape of a chalice and a slight central movement, is divided into three drawers with a small walnut section dividing the drawers and meticulous, precise and particularly elaborate decoration on the ebonised frames.

Ebonised frames and skilfully laid walnut and walnut burl veneers lend preciousness and magic to this splendid example of Lombard cabinetmaking, now impossible to find on the antiques market.

The finely chiselled bronze keyhole stands out on the drawers against a clear symmetrical pattern created by the wood grain.

The same refined chiselling can be found on the slightly wavy handles. A piece of extraordinary elegance, refined, warm and wavy, it comes from a private home in perfect condition.
