Beautiful pair of cabriolet armchairs in finely molded carved wood, gendarme hat backrest, fluted legs with knobs. Superb Louis XVI style silk lampas upholstery with delicate floral decoration on a sky blue background (Marie Antoinette silk by Tassinari et Chatel). Stamped by Paul-François Jean, Louis XVI period circa 1784-1789.
Paul-François Jean - chair maker. Certified master craftsman on October 5, 1784, and active until 1789. He worked on Rue du Faubourg-Saint-Antoine under the sign of the “Saint-Esprit.” He made luxury chairs with the help of sculptors Joigny, Cresson, Duclos, and Mancien.
The characteristics of a great master chair maker are evident: perfect proportions, flawless execution with meticulous details: raised rosettes on the connecting blocks, very fine waterleaf carving and rows of pearls on all the uprights.
Our chairs are upholstered in exceptional silk lampas (Tassinari et Chatel). Our upholsterer has created museum-quality finishes with matching cords and braids. A very beautiful pair of collector's chairs.
Excellent condition, fully restored. Sound woodwork in very good condition with minor restoration work, upholstery redone in horsehair on straps with a paneled backrest. New silk, we used a piece of 100% silk Lampas from Tassinari et Chatel (the Marie Antoinette model, sold new for €1046 per meter in stores).
