Jean-François-Théodore Gechter (1796-1844), a French sculptor, is renowned for his marble, bronze, and terracotta sculptures, which combine classical rigor with great expressiveness. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Gechter was one of the great masters of Neoclassicism, influenced by ancient sculptures and the great masters of the Renaissance. His sculptures are appreciated for their anatomical precision and fluidity, making them essential pieces in collections of 19th-century classical sculpture.
