Pair of planters attributed to Jacob Petit circa 1830-1840

PARIS attributed to Jacob Petit,

A pair of truncated-conical porcelain planters with removable pedestals, polychrome-decorated with large scenes of richly dressed Chinese figures against a landscape background on one side, and pagodas surrounded by palm trees on the other.
The handles feature gilded lion heads.
Restoration period circa 1830-1840
Total height 19 cm; Length 19 cm

This pair of planters with oriental decorations demonstrates the constant fascination of the Western world since the 17th century with the Orient, a land unknown to most and therefore, in essence, fantasized about. This can be seen here in the Asian features of the characters, the rich clothing and the vegetation: everything is reminiscent of an unknown world and an invitation to travel.
