A superb 18k gold ring in the 19th-century Neo-Etruscan style, set with a honey-colored agate intaglio dating from approximately the 16th century.

Finely engraved, the intaglio depicts the god Mercury (Hermes) standing: in his right hand, he holds a purse (a symbol of commerce and abundance) while leaning against a cippus beside his caduceus (the intertwined serpents embody prosperity and protection in trade, while the stele symbolizes the stability of wealth).

The richly detailed and refined 19th-century setting features a border of twisted filigree, granulation, and shoulders with openwork foliage scrolls, perfectly showcasing this early period gem.
