Jean-Baptiste Augustin Nemoz was taught by François Édouard Picot and Alexandre Cabanel at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He exhibited his work first at the Paris Salon and then at the Salon of the Société des Artistes Français from 1864 to 1900.
