Glass case, mid-19th century

This masterpiece by a master glassmaker is made of spun glass and is probably one of a kind. It features a variety of motifs applied to translucent glass plates or mirrors. The exceptionally fine work features geometric motifs, numerous twisted baguettes (some in two-tone pink and white), spirals and rosettes. The top of the lid is adorned with a large bouquet of pink and white spikes and bunches, framed on either side by a long amber branch, all tied with a yellow and gray tie. The reverse side of the lid features four small bouquets in the spandrels, while the interior is divided into four compartments. On the reverse, the box is signed and dated on a slip between two glass plates: "Cesson-Langles - 18 rue potard - Rouen. 1843 ". The box rests on four small round feet that appear to have been brought in, and is extremely fragile, housed in a later glass cage. There are a few small chips here and there.
Base dimensions: 31.5 cm x 23.5 cm height 24.8 cm.
Box dimensions: length 23.5 cm, width 16 cm, height 17 cm.
