This beautiful Roman school oil on canvas, from the very end of the 17th or early 18th century. “Good Philip” was born in Florence in 1515. In the service of the poor, he founded the order of oratory priests and thus were born the oratorians. In 1544, while praying in the catacombs, Philippe was visited by the Spirit which spread within him. His life was profoundly changed. From now on a fire devours him and will not let him go.
Our painting represents this founding and mystical moment where man is made luminous by Grace. Surrounded by numerous cherubs, we find the traditional attributes of our Holy Man which are the Lily, the chasuble and the flaming heart.
