A rare and fine 19th. century plaster academical horse model after Canova .
The head and one leg are removable .
Canova's horse has its origins in an equestrian statue of Napoleon, commissioned in 1807 by Napoleon's brother when he was king of Naples. After Napoleon's defeat and withdrawal from Italy , the statue was redesigned for the new rulers of Naples.
