Flat-handled peg in majolica from Castel-Durante (Italy) with polychrome "a trofei" or military trophies in ochre on an incised blue background.
Inscribed in a scrolled band "SY°.IVIVGI." Dated 1638.
Attributed to the workshop of Giambattista and Gianluca Carli. First half of the 16th century.
Chips, vertical cracks on the right near the handle.
Height: 21.5 cm; Width: 20 cm.

A similar pegbox dated 1609 bears an open book in the pedestal decoration with the inscription: "Giovan Battista Carli fecit, pitura di tera Durantis e loanes Luca filius cius", Private collection.
