Portrait vase, allegory of autumn, Amphora Riessner, Stellmacher & Kessel, ca. 1897, ivory porcelain, marked

A perfect example for the quality of the popular portrait vases of Amphora is this masterful art object, created at the end of the 19th century. An idealized female profile is depicted in a relief-like manner.

This allegorical personification of autumn is decorated with delicate foliage, vines and grapes in flowing blond hair, from which individual strands of hair artfully flutter in the wind. The deep blue of the grapes and trees creates a harmonious synergy with the matte brown and green tones. Another highlight of this vase, made of a material known as "ivory porcelain", is the subtle play of golden relief contours, which give the object additional depth.

marked with "AMPHORA", impressed model number “630”
