Très beau fauteuil de bureau

Very beautiful desk chair with median leg in natural beech wood moulded and carved with flowers and foliage. The backrest is in the form of a cane gondola, the armrests are upholstered in leather and supported by consoles. Seat with frame covered with a leather cushion.
Console feet decorated with carved leaves on the hooves.
Stamped by Falconet on the crossbar linking the front and back legs.
Louis XV period
Restorations of use, later leather cushion.
H. 85 x W. 64 x D. 48 cm

This stamp can be related to Pierre Falconet, as well as to his son Louis, who was awarded the master's degree in 1743, both of whom used the same stamp during their careers. Talented cabinetmakers, we find a Louis XVI period screen bearing their stamp (thus attributable to the son who alone produced furniture in this style) in the Nissim de Camondo Museum. Their production includes a few desk chairs with a median leg which, like ours, are distinguished not so much by original research into ornamentation, but rather by a great quality of lines and curves. However, wicker chairs are still rare in their production.
