Hunting trophy - Attributed to Michel Joseph Speeckaert

A contemporary of Pieter Faes and Frans van Dael, Speeckaert is situated in the neoclassical period of still life in Belgium.
Flowers, fruits, birds, game, wicker basket are his favorite subjects that we find almost systematically throughout his work.
On a marble entablature, two birds surrounding the head of a hare suspended by one leg sit alongside a wicker basket filled with fruit and in the foreground is a powder flask.
In the background, a large Medici vase and a dark-colored tree trunk highlight the opening in nature.
