18th Century Italian Neoclassical Wood Nightstand Centre Table

Measures: cm H 86 x W 49 x D 32 cm, height to marble 84.5 cm

This elegant central cabinet was made in Genoa (Italy), in the second half of the eighteenth century, Neoclassical Era. The small piece of furniture, perfectly finished also on the back, is paved with the wood essences of rosewood and bois de roses. The inlays play on the different colors of the woods, drawing geometric frames and mirrors very elegant. On the front, the piece of furniture has a open compartment that is paved inside, and a compartment closed by two doors that, inside, is entirely paved. This type of details embellishes the furniture, giving it value and rarity. The marquetry of the doors on the front and on the sides and on the back draw a clearer frame that has been expertly pyrographed to create geometric designs. This very refined technique allows to create a greater definition of the ornaments and also confer three-dimensionality and chiaroscuro to the drawings. The locks and side handles are original, in finely chiselled gilded bronze with characteristic motifs of the time and classical elements, such as medallions with profile faces, vases with garlands, laurel branches. Of great refinement and typical of the Genoa area is the top slightly recessed in Brocatello marble of Spain. The four truncated legs rest on tapered, wavy feet that end with a ball tip.
This cabinet can be used as a bedside table or as a coffee table also placed between armchairs and sofas of a room.
