The author of this Emilian school is probably Bartolomeo Schedoni. This drawings fits well with the various known drawings of Schedoni. As a draughtsman, he worked mainly with chalk or brush, but seems to have rarely used pen and ink. Schedoni's chalk studies reflect the particular influence of the red chalk drawings of one of the artist's illustrious predecessors in Parma, Correggio. The Emilian artist Bartolomeo Schedoni had only a brief career of about fifteen years, working mainly at the court of the Estes in Modena and that of the Farnese in Parma. His work has been described by a modern scholar as “one of the most impressive manifestations of the legacy of Correggio in Parma and of the reform movement of the Carracci in Bologna.
