A Japanese rectangular damascene box with gold zogan inlay, depicting the Torii gate with the sanctuary of Arakura Sengen and the pagoda of Chureito with the top of mt. Fuji in the background.

Decorated within a lobed circular reserve, with very fine 24 k gold foils applied by hammer set on the metal.

On the sides two imperial symbols, the Phoenix symbol of the empress and the dragon symbol of the emperor.

Entirely covered with floral motifs with wisteria and paulownia leaves, four-shelf feet keep it raised.

Signed with kao under the base, with an elephant symbol of the imperial Nishimura company since 1654.

Meiji period middle 19th century
