"The Drummer Child" Clock Set Signed Brulfer Paris, France circa 1880

Signed Brulfer Paris on the dial

Clock – Height : 60 cm (23,6 in.) ; Base : 28,5 x 28,5 cm (11,2 x 11,2 in.)
Candelabras – Height : 44,5 cm (17,6 in.) ; Base : 15 x 15 cm (5,9 in x 5,9 in.)

Charming clock set comprising a clock in patinated and gilded bronze, composed a winged putto holding by a ribbon an enamelled dial signed Brulfer Paris representing a drum, and a drumstick in the other hand. He is seated on a truncated column in gilded and chiseled bronze, fluted with acanthus leaves, decorated with a branch of roses and surrounded by a torus. The whole rests on a molded Griotte marble base surrounded by a frieze of beads, embellished on the angles by acanthus leaves, and ending with four beaded feet.

The clock is accompanied by a pair of candelabras after a model by Clodion, representing dancing putti in patinated bronze, each holding two cornupia-shaped light-arms in chiseled and gilded bronze adorned with vine. They rest on a Griotte marble square base decorated with a frieze of beads, surmounted by a glided bronze fluted and truncated column, circled by a laurel torus, and ending on four beaded feet.

The signature Brulfer Paris on the dial evokes the Parisian dynasty of clock-makers beginning at the middle of the 18th Century and whose one member is listed Faubourg Saint-Denis around 1800-1830.
