Japanese writing box in gold and silver lacquer

On a gold and silver nashiji lacquer background, the lid presents a planter with handles, decorated with a Buddhist lion in a cartouche, a bouquet of gold and silver lacquered chrysanthemum flowers (shibuishi). The interior, with its inkstone and water pourer, shows a serene lake landscape, finely represented, with a tea pavilion in the background. The corners of the lid are also decorated with floral motifs. A storage box accompanies this writing desk. Edo period early 19th century. Dimensions: 23 x 21 x H 4 cm.
