A Louis XV chest of drawers marquetry of flowers 18th century circa 1745

Louis XV period chest of drawers with curved front and sides, uprights with pinched sides opening by three drawers with visible support rails, inlaid on all sides with a decoratioLouis XV period chest of drawers in marquetry of flowers.n of branches and flowers of peonies, tulips, roses and daisies in boxwood tinted on a satinwood background arranged in butterfly wings in a moving cartouche with a counterpart of rosewood bordered with boxwood fillets; on a frame of oak and resinous with an oak base. This one is decorated with a beautiful ornamentation of finely chased and gilded bronzes, such as entries of lock, falls, bottom of lamp and rocaille foliage sabots. The whole is topped with a sheet of marble Jaspé from the Trappist abbey of Saint Remy de Rochefort of variable pink color with areas of bluish gray and lighter veins of yellow and beige. The blue of Saint-Remy is a marble jaspered (very veined), variable pink color with areas of bluish gray and lighter veins. This most harmonious and decorative marble was worked from the middle of the 15th century. The blocks were extracted from the abbey's quarry, squared on the spot (some small pieces were certainly worked in situ), loaded onto carts and laboriously transported. Namur, Dinant and their river port were privileged stages in this routing; what makes it an exceptional marble very expensive thus very rare. The most beautiful creations in Saint-Remy marble are undoubtedly those of the 18th century. Balance, elegance and quality are the most appropriate terms for this chest of drawers from the first decades of Louis XV's reign. It is worth noting the great care taken with the connecting elements of impeccable quality. Our chest of drawers is anonymous because it was produced in Paris before August 20, 1751. However, its quality of execution and its characteristic decoration tend to attribute it to the production of Pierre Roussel, who was received as master in Paris on August 21, 1745. This piece of furniture has been the subject of a perfect restoration such as stabilization of raised veneer, cleaning and varnish finish with a pad.
Dimensions (at the marble): Width: 102.5cm - Depth: 54.5cm - Height: 87.5cm.
