A Raqqa luster Jug. Syria, 12th -13th Century

Jug with a globular belly that has a luster finish that absorbs and at the same time projects the light that falls on the piece. The Jar is defined by an unglazed cylindrical foot and an S-shaped handle, characteristics of Raqqa pottery. Finally, the jug ends with a high neck, which ends in a wide round mouth, finished off with a small spout. Despite the wear caused by the passed time, it still retains the blue cobalt glaze and the luster on the brown. This jug has shapes that are reminiscent of Islamic writing.

Raqqa was one of the most popular pottery centers in Ayubi Syria. Raqqa had numerous ceramic production workshops, which stood out for their molding, glazing, and metallic reflections.
