A rare Louis XVI pair of armchairs

Stamped J-B Boulard

In molded and carved beech wood, richly carved with laurel garlands on the basket-handle backs. The armrests and their consoles finished and highlighted by scrolls underlined by falls of piastres, laurel leaves and acanthus. The belt of the wide seats carved with a frieze of interlacing. Tapered feet with flutes ending in acanthus leaves.

Jean-Baptiste Boulard (circa 1725-1789), received Master on April 17, 1755
This excellent chair carpenter, who lived on rue de Cléry, is best known as an attaché to the service of the Crown's furniture repository, for which he worked from 1777 on. That is to say essentially for all his production of Louis XVI style. It is the time when under the high direction of the sculptor Hauré, who directs all the programs of the furniture storehouse, the royal orders occupy a large part of his time.
